Give Yourself an A in 2015

Here is the exercise I do every year.  How I earned my A in 2015 is at the end of this post, and I would love to see yours.  Every year, I also do a review of my A, and I published how I did in 2014 in my last blog.


Exercise: Give Yourself An A


I want you to think about 2015 and what you want to do and achieve. Now, I want you to give yourself an A for the whole year.  The A is based upon your effort and your accomplishments.  Now I ask that you write me a letter telling me why you deserved an A.  I want the letter to start with “Dear Win, I got my A because…” and then describe in as much detail as possible, how you came to achieve this extraordinary grade. 


Now go to this time next year, and look back, and write about all the insights you acquired, milestones you attained during the year as if these accomplishments were already in the past.  Everything must be written in the past tense. Phrases such as, “I hope,” “I intend,” or “I will” must not appear. If you wish you may mention specific goals you reached, but I am more interested in the person you will have become by January 2016.  I am interested in the attitude, feelings, and worldview of the person who will have done all he wished to do or become everything he wanted to be.  And I want you to fall passionately in love with the person you are describing in the letter.


Remember, it isn’t about reaching your goals…it’s about who you become as you try.  Who do you want to be in 2015?

Dear Win, I earned my “A” in 2015 because I continued to work at discovering my voice and helping others.


I continued my singing adventure.  I took lessons twice a month and I practiced daily.  I sang at 4 more open mics, and recorded one song. 


I started working out in December 2014, and continued through out 2015.  I walked on my treadmill or outside three times a week.  I also did some stretching and strengthening exercises.  I ran two miles in 24 minutes in July. I started eating better and I got my weight down to 175.


My singing practice helped my focus and my golf handicap for the year was 15.


I continued to be a Life Coach and taught my Fulfillment Workshop at Omega in July.
 

As President of the Middlesex Heritage Group I initiated a citizen’s video interview program.  We interviewed over a dozen people who made a significant contribution to the local oral history.  I also obtained a grant to build a storage room in the upstairs of the Town Hall.  We had a wonderful unveiling of the reconditioned Overackers Corners School painting.  On Memorial Day, we dedicated the new Veterans Memorial outside of the Town Hall.  The MHG increased its membership, and we had more volunteers.


I joined a writing group and took classes on writing.  I also joined a book discussion club.  In January I began writing my memoirs.


For relaxation, fun, and time together, Elizabeth and I went on a one-week vacation trip every 3 months.


2015 was a great year for me.  I became more of who I want to be.  I earned my A by living a purposeful life and through hard work.  I contributed more to my community, helped others with my coaching, and was kinder and more understanding in all of my relationships.  I am proud of my A.
